FAQ

Ambient CO₂ sits around 400 PPM. Most indoor growers supplement between 1000 and 1500 PPM during the lights-on period to maximize photosynthesis. Some advanced growers push to 1500 to 2000 PPM, though returns diminish beyond that range, and temperature and humidity management become more demanding. The Garden Controls and Grozone USCO2 cover the most common target ranges; the Grozone SCO2, CO2R, and CO2D extend to 5000 PPM for specialized applications.

A timer can operate a CO₂ generator on a fixed schedule, but it cannot adjust for actual CO₂ concentration. If the room is not well-sealed or if plant uptake varies, a timer-based system will either under- or over-supplement. A CO₂ controller reads actual PPM and activates the source only when needed, maintaining the target level accurately while reducing CO₂ consumption.

Yes. CO₂ controllers with a relay output activate whichever CO₂ source is connected, whether a burner-type generator or a solenoid valve on a pressurized CO₂ tank. Ensure the controller's relay rating matches the electrical load of your generator. The Grozone CO2R, with its two independent outputs, can manage both a generator and a solenoid valve simultaneously.

Most CO2 sensors used in grow room controllers are non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) sensors, which are stable over long periods. Grozone recommends periodic calibration verification against a known reference, typically annually or if readings seem inconsistent with observable plant behavior. The Grozone units include calibration inputs for this purpose.
